Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen!

So here I am joining the blog world :o) Why, you may ask? Life as a modern lady has just gotten too interesting not to share with the world. I always find myself with a story that is more hilarious or interesting than fiction and end up having to come up with some creative way to handle the situation. It has also become quite interesting to me to see how the art of being a lady has seemed to fade. There are a lot of women, females, and girls who are trying to pose as ladies, but have not honored the essence of what it really means to be a lady in today's society. What does being a lady entail? One of Webster's definitions of a lady that I would use is a woman of refinement and gentle manners. I would build on this by adding that a lady is also one who respects herself and demands respect from others as well. For me a modern lady is simply a woman who's living in today's society, yet maintaining the true essence of being a lady. Being a lady in 2010 has a special set of unique challenges that women may not have had to deal with before now. I have to admit that some days I even have trouble maintaining my status as a lady and have to check myself. Often growing up and even to this day my mother would say to me, "Remember to be a lady." What it means to be a lady in essence has not changed, but the challenges ladies face are ever changing. In this blog I hope to examine these challenges, share my experiences on being a modern lady, and provide my opinions on some of today's issues from my perspective. This is not just a blog for ladies though; I'll address the gentlemen in society and often welcome respectful feedback. I know that everyone will not always agree with me, so please feel free to disagree as I'm always up for a good debate. I don't claim to be an expert on being a lady as I'm still learning myself, but I believe that everyday and every experience provides an opportunity to grow.

There are a few features that I've added to the blog that I'd like to quickly explain. There's the poll which I'll be asking for your opinion on various issues that I think would be interesting to get everyone's feedback. I'll try to leave it up for a week so everyone can get a chance to weigh in. This weeks question is "Do you think all women are ladies?" For some people the word lady is just another way of saying woman or female. I believe there's a difference, but others may disagree so we'll see what the general consensus will be.

Pearls of Wisdom will be a place where I'll post quotes either about being a lady or from women who I think exudes what it means to be a modern lady that provides us with some great insight on living. These quotes are just a way to give us inspiration, yes gentlemen included :o) The current quote is from Patti Labelle who has a book out that provides many pearls of wisdom called "Patti's Pearls." It's a good read for all but especially for ladies out there who just want some encouragement from a woman who has some great experience that we can learn from.

The Modern Lady Spotlight will feature a lady who has lived her life as an example for us all or has provided a recent example of lady like behavior. The current spotlight is Eunice Johnson, who was a producer and director of the world's largest traveling fashion show, Ebony Fashion fair, as well as the secretary-treasurer of Johnson Publishing Company, Inc. She recently passed on January 3, 2010 but left a legacy that will live on for many years to come. She showed women how to live a complete life of fashion, style and grace. From what I've seen of Ms. Johnson, she was never photographed looking any less than a much put together lady and had a very respectable reputation. I thank Ms. Johnson for being a great example of what it means to be a true lady.

I hope you all enjoy my blog and look forward to hearing your feedback.

Live love, love life!
